ATLANTA (Sept. 17, 2002) --Larry Douglas Embury, a well known concert organist and pianist, has been appointed Organist in Residence at Atlanta's legendary Fox Theatre. The appointment marks the first time since the late 1980's that Atlanta's Fox Theatre has had a resident organist.
Ed Neiss, General Manager of the Fox, said: "Larry has brought new life back into the Mighty Möller organ at the Fox. His command of the instrument coupled with his unique playing style meshes greatly with the friendly rapport he has with the audience."
Atlanta's Fox Theatre has a four-manual, 42-rank Möller pipe organ, dubbed "Mighty-Mo" by the public. In the words of Beauchamp C. Carr, Vice President of Atlanta Landmarks, which operates the Fox (and Executive Vice President of Atlanta's Woodruff Arts Center), "The Möller organ is the Fox's soul, and we're thrilled to have Larry playing it brilliantly for a new generation of Atlantans."
Audiences are in for a frequent treat: the sound of one of the largest and finest theatrical concert organs in the world played by a consummate musician. Embury will next perform during the holiday season playing for the opening of "The Nutcracker" on Thanksgiving weekend. He plays at each "Nutcracker" performance in December, pipes in the New Year, and then performs during intermissions for January's "Theatre of the Stars" productions.

Joe G. Patten, Organ Curator at Atlanta's Fox, remarked, "The first time Larry played the Fox organ I felt he was comfortable with it, and I with him. It is a unique instrument, and it requires a sensitive artist to get the most out of it. I realized that Larry could provide us an opportunity to present his superb artistry in the service of the Fox Theatre so this is a culmination of my hopes for the instrument."
Embury, who now makes his home in Atlanta, Georgia, observed, "I thoroughly enjoyed the 61 performances I was privileged to give during the summer of 2002, and am thrilled to be appointed Organist in Residence of the fabulous Fox.
